Proscar Merck,Finasteride, and Propecia are two FDA-approved medications for hair loss. Propecia is the brand name for finasteride, an oral tablet that helps block the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that can cause hair loss. It is effective for 5-6% of men at some point in their lives, but it can also lead to male pattern baldness. This drug is also known as Proscar or Propecia and has been approved for a variety of other uses, including the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Propecia is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which means that it blocks the production of DHT by inhibiting the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. Propecia was originally approved by the FDA for treating male pattern baldness, but it was later approved by the US FDA for treating hair loss.
Propecia is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It is approved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with enlarged prostate. This is a condition where the prostate gland produces androgenetic alopecia (male-pattern baldness). By blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT, Propecia helps to prevent further hair loss, which can be caused by conditions like and. Propecia has been proven to reduce the risk of prostate cancer by approximately 70-80%. In addition to treating BPH, Propecia also helps men with prostate enlargement by preventing further hair loss.
Propecia is generally well-tolerated by most people, but it may cause mild side effects that can include:
If you experience any serious side effects, you should seek immediate medical attention.
While Propecia is generally safe for most people, it may cause certain side effects in some men:
While Propecia can cause some side effects, the most common include:
The recommended starting dose of Propecia is 5 mg once a day. If you are taking the drug with or without food, it is best to start with a lower dose and gradually increase your dose. Your doctor will assess the need for a lower dose and may recommend an increase or decrease of the dose as necessary. It is recommended to start with a dose that works for all men, and that should not cause further hair loss. The recommended starting dose of Propecia is a 5 mg dose. It is also important to continue taking it indefinitely as long as you are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you stop taking the medication, your doctor may recommend that you stop the drug altogether. Propecia should not be taken by women or children.
While it is generally safe to use Propecia, it may cause some hair loss in some men. While it is rare, it is not suitable for everyone. It is important to consult with a doctor before using Propecia to assess the potential risks and benefits of this medication.

RefreshFinasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha-blocker to treat BPH. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair.
Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp. The effect of finasteride on the prostate and scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again and the hair will be lost.

Out of Stocks Product DescriptionOut of Stocks WarningThe effect of finasteride on the prostate may be reduced when stopped. Follow all instructions on how to take this medicine carefully. Consult a pharmacist, doctor or health care professional if you have questions about taking this product or if you're not sure if it is for you.
Finasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and alopecia (a general medical condition when the prostate gland does not grow enough to grow). Currently, finasteride is in a receive option for men with hair loss. It is not known if finasteride is able to be purchased without a prescription. The most common side effects of taking finasteride are decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and reduced 5-alpha-reductase activity. These side effects are usually mild and don't require medical attention until after the treatment has been stopped.
Finasteride may cause mild, temporary side effects such as headache, dizziness, breast swelling, prolonged erection, or trouble urinating. For men who have not experienced these side effects, a medical condition called prostatic hyperplasia has been suggested. However, this condition has not been thoroughly studied and has not been shown to be effective in treating male pattern baldness. Finasteride may rarely cause more serious side effects when used in conjunction with an alpha-blocker. Stop taking finasteride and get medical help right away if you have any of the following side effects or injury concerns: persistent vaginal bleeding, chest pain or pressure, persistent nausea or vomiting, skin reaction after taking finasteride, a feeling of dryness or irritation, or a new headache or dizziness.

Hi!
I have been on Proscar since the 1st day of my finasteride. I was prescribed to have a 3 month treatment course on my first day, with the goal of having a 4 month course. I have never taken it, but I am now using it regularly and with the help of my doctor I can do a 4 month course. I have been taking Proscar for about 2 years. I have been taking the 5mg dose and I am on my 2nd day of this treatment. I have been doing well in my 3rd day. I am taking the 10mg dose of Proscar. I am also taking 1mg of Proscar. I am using it for the first time in my life so it is not working. I will be taking it for a few months but not long now. My question is why have you been taking it for 2 days instead of the 5mg dose? My doctor has said that I should take the 5mg dose and that I should be taking it for 2 days. I have also been taking the Proscar for 2 days, with the aim of getting a 4 month course. Can this be the reason? I have been taking it for 1 month and still not feeling the effects of the medication. My question is why? Thanks in advance. I am currently taking the Proscar and am taking the 5mg dose as well. It is working great and I am feeling very well. I am also taking the 10mg dose and am waiting for my doctor to give me a better result. My question is what the side effects are? How is it different from Proscar? Any other information I can find?
I am using Proscar for a few months and am going to see my doctor about this issue. I am also taking the 5mg dose of finasteride. I am trying to find the best dosage for my condition. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!T. J.
